Hungarian Csárdás and Bohemian Polka on the floating stage
In summer 2018, the Seefestspiele Mörbisch would like to entertain you, seduce you, charm you, sing to you and amuse you with one of the most frequently performed and most popular operettas. A strong-minded countess, a fictional bridegroom and an impoverished count – in Emmerich Kalman’s operetta "Countess Maritza" there are all kinds of amorous entanglements and an abundance of magnificent melodies. Who can resist melodies such as "Let’s go to Varasdin", "Greetings to the sweet, charming ladies in beautiful Vienna", or "Come, gypsies"?
Entertaining plot with some surprise
Countess Maritza who is both rich and beautiful, can scarcely ward off her admirers and fortune hunters. She concocts a story about a fiancé, but unfortunately, a baron with that name actually exists, and, to Maritza’s horror he is not averse to marrying her. All of this just as she meets Tassilo, the new bailiff on her estate, who – social differences notwithstanding – she prefers to any of her previous admirers.
