Mörbisch Festival on the Lake
My Fair Lady by Frederick
Loewe
Only 60 kilometres (40
miles) from Vienna, less than one hour by
car, in front of the unique natural backdrop
of the “Neusiedler See” in Burgenland, the
world greatest operetta-festival is
situated.
Up to 220,000 visitors
are yearly attracted to the open air
festival within the months of July and
August. This means, 6,200 people are
enchanted by the musical masterpieces of
classical operetta each performance.
With this musical play
and its world renowned melodies ("The
Rain in Spain Stays Mainly in the Plain", "I
Could Have Danced All Night" or "Just You
Wait, Henry Higgins"),
Artistic
Director Harald Serafin
presents the Tony Award winning musical of
“My Fair Lady”. The well-known actor
Helmuth Lohner will be the stage
director. He directed already four
productions at the festival and is thus
familiar with the conditions of this
open-air stage.
The role of Professor
Higgins is excellently filled by Michael
Maertens, celebrated actor at the
Viennese “Burgtheater” and Nestroy Award
winner. The sopranos Katrin Fuchs and
Nadine Zeintl will alternate in the
role as Eliza Doolittle and portrait the
struggling with the pitfalls of language, to
win the favour of Professor Higgins. The
role of Freddy will be played by Daniel
Serafin and the part of Colonel
Pickering will be portrayed by artistic
director Prof Harald Serafin himself.
Gaby Jacoby will play the role of
Mother Higgins. Respected Musical specialist
Caspar Richter, who is the musical
director of the “Vereinigten Bühnen Wien”,
will be conducting the performances.
